What Happens During a Root Canal?

Before treating the affected tooth, Dr. Flynn or Dr. Tran will use our CT/Cone Beam Scanner to analyze it and prepare the treatment plan.
On the day of the procedure, the following will occur:
- Our dentist will numb your mouth with local anesthesia before isolating the tooth to prevent moisture from reaching the area.
 - A small hole will be created in the crown of the affected tooth, allowing us to begin removing diseased tissues as well as the pulp – the infected portion of the tooth.
 - Once the root canals and pulp chamber receive a thorough cleaning, they will be sanitized before gutta-percha is injected. This will be used to maintain the structural integrity of the tooth.
 - We will seal off the tooth so that bacteria do not reenter. Then, we will take impressions so that a custom dental crown can be created and bonded over the tooth for maximum protection.

Benefits of Root Canal Treatment

No matter how hard and scary some individuals try to make root canals sound, many great benefits come with this type of smile-saving treatment, such as:
- A procedure that does not cause pain but instead removes it by targeting the infection within the pulp
 - A treatment that prevents tooth extraction, allowing the individual to keep their natural tooth and avoid the expense of replacing it
 - The ability to stop the spread of infection so that it doesn’t negatively impact the rest of a person’s oral and overall health
