Here\u2019s a closer look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sensitivity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most common side-effects that people experience when getting veneers is tooth sensitivity, especially in response to stimuli such as hot or cold foods or beverages. &nbsp;This occurs because to ensure that your restorations fit properly in your mouth, your dentist must remove small amounts of enamel from each tooth to reshape them.&nbsp; The good news is that this sensitivity is usually temporary and typically goes away after your permanent veneers are attached. However, if this is not the case, talk to your dentist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gum Irritation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Temporary gum irritation is common following your veneer treatment, as your dentist may need to move the tissue to place the restoration below the gumline. However, if it lingers beyond a few days post-procedure, it could be due to improper veneer placement or even a badly fitting restoration, so be sure to contact your dentist if it doesn\u2019t get better after a week or two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chips &amp; Cracks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although your new veneers are durable and strong enough to withstand a full diet, they aren\u2019t completely indestructible and can become chipped or cracked if you\u2019re not careful. Thus, be sure to avoid bad oral habits like nail biting, using your teeth to tear packaging, eating excessively crunchy foods like hard candies or ice cubes, and if you grind your teeth, speak to your dentist about getting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seasidedentalnsb.com\/preventive-dentistry.html\">a custom bite guard<\/a> made for bruxism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stains &amp; Discoloration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Veneers can be made in practically any shade of white you desire, and are stain resistant, too! Unfortunately, however, they can still become discolored, especially if you use tobacco or frequently consume dark foods and beverages. To remedy this, be sure to quit bad habits like smoking and vaping and maintain excellent oral hygiene if you choose to indulge in things like coffee, cola, or red wine. It\u2019s also important to mention that whitening products and treatments that are designed for untreated teeth will <em>not<\/em> work on veneers, so if yours do become stained, you\u2019ll need to speak to your dentist about having them re-shaded or replaced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Decay &amp; Cavities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even though the outside surface of your teeth will be covered with porcelain, they are not impervious to cavities. In fact, you can still develop dangerous decay beneath your veneers, making it that much harder to treat. Thus, it is still extremely important to maintain excellent oral hygiene, including brushing twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush, flossing daily, and visiting your dentist every six months for your regular preventive checkups and cleanings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remember, veneers can instantly transform multiple aspects of your smile, and with proper care could last for over two decades.
